This workshop aims to unveil the double-edged sword that came with the new trend of Asian representation in the media. With the spotlight finally being shared with Asian Americans, the burden lies on us to find solutions to create true, authentic representation. By investigating what authenticity is in relation to media consumption and relating it to capitalist incentives, we will analyze the motivation and intentions of different Hollywood projects. Together, we will come to solutions and ideas on how to create new organic and authentic representations to deconstruct a century of stereotypes and commodification.
